I got so much out of this weekend’s Assisted Living Boot Camp that I don’t know where to start. I got a book written by Jill Shepard, autographed with a sweet sentiment. She wishes me always to be “skinny, rich and in love”, as that is what I want! I got to see a great example of a true partnership between Jill and her life partner, Randy.
It is clear to me from what I learned this weekend that I need to surround myself with good people and share with them to make it worth their while. I learned the nuts and bolts of how to proceed with my Assisted Living project. Randy has provided by e-mail invaluable links to all the information I need, organized by a “map”. Jill provided a CD with many forms needed and a workbook that outlines “How To Do It” from start to finish. They very generously shared their hospitality, conducting the workshop on location at the site of CreekView Lodge.
They shared their marketing materials, including their CD that goes out to perspective clients and Randy provided a copy of their Cable TV commercial with a link by e-mail.
I was given phone numbers and contact info for many people who are helpful for actually executing my plan. We have dreamed and schemed this weekend and will make plans for the future…we took pictures together and spent Randy’s birthday together so I now feel like family!

Jill’s seminar was great! It was very comprehensive in the areas it covered—from finding a property to what was needed to get licensed—all the elements of a turnkey Assisted Living facility. She shared all the big things she would have done differently, both mistakes as well as better ways to do things, so we can all avoid those pitfalls. She was very willing to share everything she did and everything she knew about the subject, including how she structured the ownership and the financing. It was great having a chance to ask all the questions we wanted to ask. Randy’s contribution to the seminar was also invaluable. The additional resources he provided us will save us a great deal of time and effort as we collect information concerning Assisted Living in our own states. They both made it a fun experience as well as very informative. Also, it was a great inspiration and encouragement just to hear Jill talk and share about how she pulled this whole project together. She’s an incredible “take action” person, like few people I’ve ever met, and her enthusiasm and “just do it” attitude and energy are contagious!
